Spambots Attack AOD Site
   It has came to our attention that our website
www.faithsigns.com was recently subjected to
attacks by spambots.

   Spambots surf the web, looking for guestbooks, wikis, blogs, gallerys, forums and any other web forms to submit spam links to the web forms it finds. Some spam messages are targeted towards readers and can involve techniques of target marketing or even phishing, making it hard to tell real posts from the bot generated ones. Not all of the spam posts are meant for the readers; some spam messages are simply hyperlinks intended to boost search engine ranking.

   The photo gallery section of our site was the target of countless spam comments linking to various other websites and products. We would like to apologize for any misleading links that may have got posted. The links where not part of any advertising program here at Action Outdoor Faith Signs and Awnings.

The price we paid for the spam
   The popular search engine google.com and the site stopbadware.org scanned our site and found it to be linking to badware and other spam sites. This was the reason for the warning page that many of you may have seen when searching for our site on google.com

   Our site was offline for quite some time and the impact of that was a real wake up call. Loss of communication between our sales team and the customers was a huge blow to our business. In addition to the loss of communication we had to spend over a week rebuilding our site and databases, going over pages of code and scanning for any other badware before we resubmitted our site to google.com
and stopbadware.org for another review.

The final verdict
  After waiting only a matter of a few days google.com and stopbadware.org had the second review of our site complete. All is  now good and the warning has been
lifted from the search results. We are clean and free of spam.

In Closing
We have taken a few steps to prevent this from happening again. The photo gallery section of our site no longer allows comments on photos. We have implemented a few helpful security .txt files on our server to push bots away. This is only the beginning of our security plan for the site. We still have other options for making www.faithsigns.com a secure site to visit.
