Ever
ask yourself any of the following questions?
*What are channel letters?
*How do channel letters mount to a wall?
*How is power supplied to my channel letters?
A channel letter is a three dimensional illuminated
letter built from aluminum or steel with a lexan
face that is lit via neon or LED lighting from
within the extrusion of the letter. This style of
lettering is an ideal choice for indoor and outdoor advertising.
Most any design or
style can be custom-made to
fit your needs. In most cases only the face of
the letter is lit, but channel letters
may also be lit
in a reverse style to cast the light out from the
back of the letter extrusion onto the surface they are mounted upon.
This will create a beautiful
halo effect around the outside edge of the
lettering.
Powering
the channel letters
lighting system is done in 2 ways.
*1. Raceway
mounted channel letter
Some letters
are powered via a raceway mounted to the wall and running behind the
letter
extrusion. The
raceway is painted to match the color of the surface that it will mount
to
so it dose not stand out. Power is
supplied via the structure the
channel letters will be
attached to and tapped directly into the raceway to provide the lighting
system with power.
*2. Direct
Mounted channel letter
In direct mount
the channels letter
are mounted
directly to the surface or wall. The lighting system is powered by
supplying a source to the first letter and jumping it to the next much
like lights on a Christmas tree.
The letters themselves contain all the hardware they need to
distribute the power safely through the system.
In
the image to the left you can see how the
neon style lettering is constructed.
The neon tube or LED
lights run through the
extrusion to light up the face of the letter.
